Quince Trees

We have 3 quince trees.

The trees were planted nearly 30 years ago.

This years crop isn't huge

The quinces on the trees are looking great.

Not long now.

A Grey Day

A grey wet day after the heat. A spider has been busy outside our front door.
The trees are growing.  I am so disappointed that my quince trees have lost a lot of their fruit this year.  Hot winds seem to have been the problem.  The trees look really healthy and have been watered. The lack of fruit happens every few years and this must be the year.

I'm off to do some weaving after dyeing yarn for the Sunday Arts Centre Market.

Roast Quince

Ther quince tree is still supplying me with the most delicious quinces.  Last night I cooked a roast and we enjoyed roast quince.  I cut the quince in half, scooped out the centre and just lightly sprinkled the quince with brown sugar. No peeling required.  It really was very yummy!

Quince Harvest

These quinces are bubbling away on the stove tonight -  eventually I will have quince paste.  There are so many more quinces on the trees.  One of my favourite dishes is quince and apple.

Look whats growing in our garden

Over twenty years ago I planted these quince trees.  This year I have the best crop of quinces ever.  The trees don't produce fruit each year.  If we get strong winds at blossom time it will not be a good year for fruit.  Over summer the sheep are allowed to graze this section around the house to keep the grass down.  I let the sheep in this year and they immediately started eating the leaves on the quince trees.  Some sheep were even standing on their back legs to reach that little bit higher.  The sheep have been banished until after quince harvest.

This is one of the happy healthy quinces.

And the crab apple is laden with fruit as well.  I will make crab apple jelly.

My Favourite Blossom

Each year I wait for my favourite blossom. I have 3 quince trees which provide us with quinces some years and not others, depending on the winds in October. So far so good this year.

Mopsy our dog comes home from the breeder this week. These are two of the rascals. It was impossible to get all nine puppies together for a family group photo. Mopsy is so over her puppies and I'm sure will be glad to come back to the quieter farm life. Darwin is missing Mopsy but as Darwin has taken over Mopsy's kennel who knows what sort of welcome there will be. They certainly both won't fit in the one kennel.

This little chap was in a bucket hiding under another bucket. Rather difficult to get a photo of a frog in a bucket. Frogs are returning to this area and can be rather noisy.
I'm off to the felting studio to make some felt squares for upcoming markets. Have a few ideas so will take some photos of finished pieces. No shortage of materials here, just the time to get things done. Have washed fleece today and have spread it out to dry in the sun.
