Spinning and Dyeing

Merino Chunky yarn I have spun and dyed.  The weather is still cold and I am happy to be spinning most days.
Some yarn is for the Arts Centre Market in Melbourne and today I am listing yarns on my Etsy shop.  At the end of last week I had dyed merino chunky I had wound into 25 metre mini hanks.  The yarn dried over the weekend and now I'm photographing and listing.

Sheep

The weather has been hot and dry

The sheep have been enjoying eating the grass in the house yard.
And trimming the trees as well.

In the morning they are always ready to go back out to the big paddock.

I have been spinning lots of textured chunky yarn for the Arts Centre Market.

Working with Wool

A very friendly English Leicester rare breed sheep.  This sheep has a gentle nature and comes t5o see me when I go to her paddock.

Lots of green grass at the back of the house.

Some of the yarn I have spun for the Australian Ballet.  The yarn will be used for costumes for Sleeping Beauty.  Can't wait to see what the designer does with the yarn. The yarn on the left is a natural grey, no dye.  The yarn on the right I have dyed but using earthy tones.

Scarf

Although the weather has been very hot here I have been working on winter stock.  I keep reminding myself it will get cool again and even cold.  This is a raspberry pink neck scarf with a scarf brooch. The yarn is hand spun and hand dyed merino so very soft.

WeavingYarns

I have been spinning and spinning in this hot weather.  The studio is the coolest place in the afternoon so I have been spinning at least 2 huge bobbins each afternoon. The yarn is very chunky and is for floor rugs.

This yarn is a mix of greys.  I have more yarn and will show you some in the next few days.   My sheep provide me with such wonderful fleeces to to keep me spinning.

First Market for 2014

Today with shearing finished I'm getting ready for the market at the Arts Centre on Sunday.  I have dyed some aran yarn and also some sock yarn.

Over the holidays I have also been knitting scarves.  This pink and gold mix is always a popular colour mix. I'm off to the studio now to make some scarf pins for smaller neck scarves.

Tonight's Knitting

I feel like knitting something colourful.

I found some textured and chunky yarns and put them in a box.  Have lots to do today so scarf knitting will have to wait until tonight. However I have cast on so all is ready to go.  Must finish some children's hats and take photos.  Then some spinning and weaving.  That's enough on the list today.

Slow Week

Have dyed some yarn..

And knitted one hat and started another.

My knee and I had an argument last weekend and I have spent the week on crutches.  This has certainly slowed me down.  As I'm spending a lot of time on the couch I thought I would knit a hat involving colourwork.  The yarns hopefully won't get tangled.

A Busy Day

David has been on the Grey Fergie cutting grass.  The sheep cannot eat fast enough.  In fact the sheep are asleep under the trees.

This is some grey wool, mohair and silk I have spun today.

Mohair I have dyed - ready to be blended this afternoon.

A soft blend I will spin after lunch.

Packing for Sunday's Market

Just thought I would give you a peek at some new yarns I have for the market at the Arts Centre in Melbourne on Sunday.  Finishing in the yarn "dept" this morning but I will have some yarn which is still drying to label tomorrow.

I now have sock yarn available again.  About to label the remainder of the colours.

And lots of 8 ply.  Some yarn is still in the dyepot and other yarn is drying in the loft.   New hats are almost ready - just need to add a finishing touch.  I've had a really productive week.
Enjoy your weekend.

Yarn Thursday

A peek at some of the yarn available from my Shop this afternoon.  Market customers are welcome to contact me if they would like a particular colour and you can then collect from the Arts Centre Market on Sunday.  I'll be adding sock yarns, 5 ply, 8 ply and Chunky yarn.  So back to the studio to label the yarn.

Woolly Week

A week of lots of spinning and dyeing.  I am about to brave the rain and go to the studio to pack the last of the orders to be sent out tomorrow morning.  It takes longer for the yarn to dry in this damp weather.  At night I hang the yarn from racks in the loft and this is the best way to get it dry.
All the animals are fed.  Dinner is early on these windy wet days.

These yarns have been sent to Hip 2 Knit in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada

Love the natural grey.  Not much left until December shearing.  Let me know if you would like some.  I have some ideas about what I would like to knit but will share!!

Weather is freezing and wet again.  Our road is still closed at the creek.  So far we haven't lost any trees although I have noticed a few trees have fallen over as the ground is saturated and root systems are not deep enough.

Must remember to take my camera when I go into Ballarat next.  Lots of water in Lake Wendouree.

Saturday is the Buninyong Farmers Market.  I'll be in the Buninyong Town Hall from 9am.
