Cosy time

I have been making a blues tea cosy.  But then  added some gold flowers and some felt and some stitches.

And then I decided to add more on the other side.

And now the tea cosy is finished. I also knitted a lining for the cosy so this one will super insulate your teapot.

Weaving Mate

This note book is my weaving mate.  I lives with my loom and is always ready for my notes about what I am weaving.  The note book is also a place for new rug ideas .

The Folder has pockets for yarn samples, Space for a pen, scissors and a darning needle for warp repairs if needed.

And a most delightful cover.
The weaving mate (or sewing, knitting or spinning mate) was made by Missy MaoMao who has a stall at the Arts Centre Sunday Market in Melbourne.

Travels

Daughter Brie is safely home from her travels.
Some tense moments on this trip and we are happy for to be home safely.

Her change of travel plans gave her a couple of weeks in the UK. And very thoughtful as always Brie gifted me a stylish Harris Tweed purse.

And this mug from the Kaffe Fassett Exhibition in Edinburgh.

Winter

We are experiencing a true winter this year

Some very cold mornings.  Getting up early for the Sunday market has been difficult.

Thankfully I am working in the loft today. So cosy up here.

Winter Hats

Just the day for a warm hat for for winter.  We woke up to a frost this morning.

Really like the colour combination in this hat.  Today I am making felt hat bands for another 4 hats I need to finish.  Hats will be available on the website later in the week.

A petal at a time

The polyanthus is taking its time to open.  I have dyed more pink yarn this week.  This is some hand spun weaving or craft yarn.  As well as spinning lots of fleece which I will dye, I have finished dyeing the sock and aran weight yarn.

Rainy Days

Well I haven't blogged for ages.  I have missed blogging and plan to blog at least weekly.

I am working in the loft today. The photo is taken from the loft window facing south.  It  is so warm and cosy in the loft.  As well my loom is up here and I'm seriously trying to finish a floor rug.

As well I have a roast dinner cooking in the oven and must say it smell delicious. I'm roasting fennel,  parsnips, beetroot, potatoes and yellow carrots, all purchased at the Ballarat Farmers Market last Saturday.

Scarf

Although the weather has been very hot here I have been working on winter stock.  I keep reminding myself it will get cool again and even cold.  This is a raspberry pink neck scarf with a scarf brooch. The yarn is hand spun and hand dyed merino so very soft.

More Weaving Yarn

I washed and dyed the fleece before spinning this yarn.
No dye in this yarn

I mixed a chocolate and charcoal fleece to spin this yarn.  Today I was looking through some of my fleeces and found a grey.  I will start washing that fleece as soon as I have washed all the yarn I have dyed yesterday and today. Yarn supplies were very low so I have dyed sock, Aran, 8 ply and lace weight.  All will be dry by the morning so I can pack for Sunday's market.

The loom is ready - again. I had made a mistake threading the reed so that is now fixed.

WeavingYarns

I have been spinning and spinning in this hot weather.  The studio is the coolest place in the afternoon so I have been spinning at least 2 huge bobbins each afternoon. The yarn is very chunky and is for floor rugs.

This yarn is a mix of greys.  I have more yarn and will show you some in the next few days.   My sheep provide me with such wonderful fleeces to to keep me spinning.

Hurtle....the kitten

Hurtle ready to pounce

Meet Hurtle our new kitten. Well he belongs to Brie but this week the care and training is being provided by David and I. This morning Hurtle had found some of Brie’s yarn. It is now in a terrible tangle. I have hid it in a box – from both Hurtle and Brie. Think Brie reads this blog so that’s the end of Hurtle’s secret.

Hurtle is the most entertaining animal. Eventually he will spend time outside and sleep in the shed with our other cat Maude. Now Maude has done nothing but ignore Hurtle or hiss through the window. Still some work to be done in that department.

This Week's Tea Cosies

e

Series of Kangaroos and Koalas

Weather has been very hot here. I get up early and work until early afternoon. These tea cosies are my latest and will be available on my website.

The market was cancelled last week due to the heat.

Today I am finishing warping the loom.  David helped me wind on the warp and now I need to do the threading.  Lots of yarn has been spun from my own fleeces. I have a majestic silver grey, a chocolate and lots of white.  Some of the white I have dyed red, orange, ochre and gold.  Have lots of ideas so had better get to my threading.

First Market for 2014

Today with shearing finished I'm getting ready for the market at the Arts Centre on Sunday.  I have dyed some aran yarn and also some sock yarn.

Over the holidays I have also been knitting scarves.  This pink and gold mix is always a popular colour mix. I'm off to the studio now to make some scarf pins for smaller neck scarves.

Too Exhausted to ...................

We were all too exhausted to celebrate New Year's Eve.  It wasn't planned but it just happened that shearing took place on New Year's Eve.  The sheep I am sure a very pleased although the weather was cold on New Years night.  We brought the sheep into the house yard where there is plenty of shelter.

The wool is the best we have had for years.  Most of the sheep were coated which has resulted in very clean wool.  Now its time to get spinning and dyeing and weaving.

I'll be back at the Arts Centre Market on Sunday.
