I found the eggs

The rooster and his girls stick together all day. After breakfast the day begins for these Light Sussex.

They venture far and wide during the day but always return in time for bed. I was getting rather impatient with the girls as eggs were few and far between.

But today I had a find.  The chooks are laying in an old dog kennel.  So I'll put some straw in the kennel to make it cosy for them.

Morning Walk in the Fog

Firstly I let the chooks out of their fox proof house.  Mr Roderick Rooster is always ready and in a hurry to get breakfast.

The dogs and I walk up the road.  Thankfully the road has been recently graded.  We are at the forgotten end of Ballarat.  I'm OK with a gravel road but it does need more care and attention.

A great way to start the day.

Shame on them............

I have lots of ideas for Blogtoberfest. Today was to be Mr Darwin's (dog) day. He however was so naughty this morning on our walk that its best that I don't write about him today. Estella, our oldest sheep has torn her lovely floral coat I made for her so she isn't in the good books either.

and as for these chookies saved from the egg factory.....

For 2 days they laid 2 eggs each day so I thought here we go.  Feathers have grown back, they have a very happy life, have been fed lots of silverbeet and grain but today not one egg!!!

Here they are waiting for me to feed them a second breakfast.

And enjoying some sunshine before the rain arrives.

Maybe tomorrow...

My Chooks (Chickens)

I haven't had chooks for a while - just seemed to have a bit of bad luck.  Really missed not having fresh eggs so off I went tot he chook factory and bought 6 chooks.  these chooks were at the end of their egg laying life in the commercial world.

Quite a few feathers were missing however after just a couple of weeks we have happy hens who are regrowing their feathers and laying 4 eggs each day.

Always there has to be the hen pecker and this girl is the one in the group.  Don't laugh - this chook has been undergoing some special training.   Gradually I feel I am encouraging her to be a more pleasant animal.
