Animal Life

Mopsy is back after having her last litter of puppies..
She likes a long walk after having a bath.

This is Choc.  He is so gentle and friendly.

The sheep are feeling rather good eating lots of grass.  The shearer needs to be booked for the end of November.

The latest addition.  Well I'm not sure for how long but David found this little hare when he was mowing. The hare is still living here and hasn't found the vegie garden yet.

Spring Pink

The quince tree is covered in blossom.  I think we will have a large crop of quinces as the weather has been kind and we haven't had much windy weather.

I made a pink spring tea cosy this week.

One of the crab apple trees outside my studio.

This is a very old apple tree near the creek.

Early Morning

This past week has been a busy one.  I have been going out tot he studio early.  One morning I watched the fog make interesting patterns between the moon and a tree.

David was moving wood with the tractor - and old grey Fergie.  Rufus always finds the warm spots on cold days.

Warm and for me

I don't get to knit as much for myself as I would like.  These socks are all finished and for me.  The socks will keep my feet warm on Sundays when I'm at the Arts Centre market in Melbourne.  The weather forecast for next Sunday is looking very chilly.

I also made a cover for my phone!

Trips to the local.......

This week there have been a few trips to the local Post Office.  I managed to get all the orders finished and the 2 parcels off to the Alice Springs Beanie Festival. The Beanie Festival is for beanies and tea cosies.  Surprised with tea cosies at the beanie festival???  I sell quite a few beanies as hats.

A mix of pinks in this chunky yarn hat.

Yellows and aqua purples.

Lots of rain here today.  Now the rain has eased I'm off to the studio to spin.  This morning I was working on tea cosies.

Markets This Weekend

This morning we woke up to a frost so now is the time you really need a tea cosy. This weekend Hawthorne Cottage will be at 3 markets, Wesley Hill (Castlemaine) and Buninyong Farmers Market on Saturday and Arts Centre Melbourne on Sunday.

These are 3 of the new tea cosies for the markets.  I am going to the studio to finish some more.   Then I'll be at the dye pot for the remainder of the day and tomorrow.
Now I need to let the chooks(chickens) and goose out for breakfast.  I am late as I have a cold and a bit slow getting started.

Have almost finished the sheep coats for our 2 oldest sheep - they get some colour!! So lots to get done. Will be back with more photos.

Special Treasure

This is a doiley case/cover made by my mother.  All the small doilies were kept here.  I used to love putting away the starched doilies when I was a child. The doilies felt so good and had a fresh smell. I still have all the doilies which I will wash and starch and put in their special cover.

A close up of the flowers on the front.

The Adventurous Chook

This chook (chicken) is an escapee.  Every morning after I have opened the door to the chook house and come inside our house she has been over the fence to freedom. All was fine until one night we were a little late locking up the chook house and  one chook was missing. I sadly thought that Mr Fox had come around early.

But Mrs Chook was fine.  She found a good hidy hole and settled in for the night.

David trimmed one wing and still she got out.

Here she is telling her friends how good it is out in the big wide world. Mrs Chook was climbing up this fence to get out, she wasn't flying over the fence at all. Now the fence has tree branches at the top so no more climbing over the top.

The goose prefers the big yard to himself

And Darwin, well he just enjoys any action!

I have been spinning, dyeing yarn and making scarves lately.  This is a "Neck Scarf".  A shorter style scarf with a brooch. The scarf can be worn in a few differnt styles using the brooch to keep the scarf in place.

Crab Apple Jelly

I am about to pick my crab apples and this afternoon I will make crab apple jelly.  Lots to do before then.  Orders to finish and items to list on the website.

The day is just perfect.  Dogs have been walked and have fresh water as Darwin swims in any water available, chooks are fed and I've even had a conversation with the sheep.  Vegie garden needs some assistance but that is on tomorrow's list.

Weekend Away

Last weekend I spent time in Daylesford with some special friends.  Well I only had half a weekend away as I came home early so I could take my woollies to the Arts Centre Melbourne Market on Sunday.

Just had to take a photo of this lamp.

The property had large gardens and even a tennis court.

The weather was overcast and even a little wet at times.

Autumn Light

Today I have been taking lots of photos.  I have listed more chunky yarn on the website and have taken photos for the listings.  This yarn I have dyed this week is for the Arts Centre Melbourne Market on Sunday.

We have faster Internet now and it makes life so much easier.  So more stock on the website and more blogs as it will not take forever to load a photo.

Today was a beautiful Autumn day here. I'm off to coolect the eggs and feed the animals.  Will take my time and make the most of the late afternoon sun.

Entertainment at the Sunday Market.

New things are happening at the Arts Centre Melbourne Sunday Market.  Every Sunday in March will feature entertainment on the lawn.  My stall is at the back of the lawn near Hamer Hall so no excuse not to come and say hello

This Sunday the entertainer will be Jaq Dan - Spiegel style character doing magic/circus type tricks

from midday and he will also have a ukulele.

A new hat hand knitted in Chunky yarn and a blend of wool, mohair and silk.

Chunky merino wool headband.

Autumn tea cosy for a large tea pot.

Lots more new stock for the market on Sunday.

A Place for Good Food

When I go to Melbourne I always plan my trip on a day the Queen Victoria Market is open.

Last week I went to Melbourne for a meeting.  I travelled on the early trian so I could manage some time at the market.

The day was particularly hot so I didn't get to do much shopping.  I came home with some delicious bread and some fresh spices.
